what's on:  when, where, what, who: have a lovely kennedy experience !

From Ronnie Scott's website :  Although acknowledged as one of the world's leading violin virtuosos, Nigel Kennedy is no ordinary classical musician. His punk attitude both on and off the bandstand has seen him turn classical music on its head. When Kennedy performed at the club in 2009 his jazz chops were in no doubt.  He “cut loose with an improvisation of plunging downward runs and climactically flurrying ascents that jazz violinists of Jean-Luc Ponty's or Jerry Goodman's stature might have blanched at,” offered the Guardian. Returning to Ronnie’s for eight shows over five nights, Kennedy revisits one of his greatest loves: the music of the great George Gershwin ! [ED: It's not my place to contradict Ronnie Scott's website, is it ? But Sarka Hellerova, editor of the journal Právo, says that Nigel told her when she interviewed him: "As far as Gershwin is concerned, until recently I hated him, and even the purchase of Ella & Satchmo Sing Gershwin (from Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong,) did not solve my problem with his patrolling subjugation to the US middle class."]

These are the Gershwin pieces which Nigel will be playing at this concert:  Summertime; Lady, be good; How long has this been going on ?; They can't take that away from me; The Man I Love; Fascinating Rhythm. I imagine that he will be playing them at all the Gershwin concerts, but none of the other venues are committing themselves right now.

*This is how the venue describes the programme !  It also lists the performers, apart from Nigel, as his "excellent Polish jazz band." Since Julian, Doug and Rolf are NOT Polish, I'm not at all sure WHO will be onstage with Nigel.

For the following three concerts in the U.K. I found a note on the websites of the venues which read as follows: 'Please Note:  under 16s must be accompanied by an adult over 18.' This is the first time I've ever seen such a restriction in any of the concert halls I've been in and it makes me wonder how many under 16s have committed acts of any kind which they would NOT have committed had an over 18 been with them !  Or............could it be that ........oh, surely not !........is it considered likely that Nigel will do or say something which under 16s should not hear or see and that the over 18's will gallantly cover the ears or eyes (or both)of their innocent companions ?  Or is there something else that I'm just not getting ? Please feel free to enlighten me !

Music is there for the audience. People have bothered to leave their homes and come and hear me play.  I owe it to the crowd. They're the ones who keep me in a living and give me the respect of coming and hearing it : nk
