These are Nigel's actual violins. Slawek Melaniuk took the picture of the acoustic violin and the electric violin at the Kennedy/Kroke concert in Sopot, Poland in February, 2011.
Nigel's concert violin is a Bergonzi. Carlo Bergonzi (21 December 1683 – 9 February 1747) was an Italian luthier who apprenticed with Hieronymos Amati, collaborated with Joseph Guarneri, and is considered the greatest pupil of Antonio Stradivari. The jazz violin is a customized five-string Violectra (click http://www.violectra.co.uk/) which produces the most amazing sounds when Nigel plays it..........they are hard to describe and must be heard in concert to be really appreciated.
At whatever time he gets up in the morning, he spends the first few hours of the day practicing. He begins every day with an hour playing Bach - "That's the best thing for my chops, and it's good spiritually to start off with" - and then moves to electric violin, practising different jazz progressions "to sharpen up the head".
He is passionately committed to all the kinds of music that he plays.
